The Questions You’re Afraid to Ask Your Boudoir Photographer

I know that a boudoir session can be intimidating AF – especially if you’re not someone who gets their photo taken often, if ever at all. Meeting a stranger at a place you’ve never been? Wearing lingerie in front of said stranger? Trying to look hot and feel confident through it all? Yeah, sounds like… a lot. I also know that you probably have some questions that feel too awkward or intimate or weird to ask me, even over email. The good news? Ya girl is the PRO when it comes to making you feel comfy in the moment. I’ve photographed over 375 boudoir sessions featuring all body types, all skin tones, all types of love when it comes to couples, and all vibes.

Here are a handful of my frequently asked, slightly uncomfortable questions and their answers to ease your mind just a bit.

What if I am on my period during my boudoir session?

Your comfort and confidence are my top priorities. If you’re on your period during your session, it’s completely okay. A lot of people come in during their period and still absolutely kill it at their session. (And some girlies prefer shooting during this time because their chest appears bigger haha.) I recommend using a collection method like a tampon or cup, so it’s basically invisible. Just let me know, and we can work around it to ensure you feel as hot and sexy and empowered as you possibly can. Yes, I will tell you if I can see your tampon string and give you the chance to tuck it away.

Can I incorporate kink into my boudoir session?

Oh hell yes. I promise to never ever kink shame you as long as everyone involved is an informed + consenting adult. Your boudoir session is all about expressing your authentic self, no matter how spicy. If incorporating elements of kink is part of your vision, we can absolutely capture that side of you. Using props like cuffs, latex, collars, and spreader bars can be the perfection addition to your boudoir session. Shoot me an email or DM so we can chat about your ideas!

Can I get my bruises or acne edited out?

Absolutely. I don’t edit bodies to look different, but if you have something temporary like a bruise or breakout, I am happy to remove it. Please let me know during your session if you have something specific you’d like taken out. If you like the bruises you have, let me know to keep them in.* (*See previous question haha.)

What happens if me or my partner gets an erection during a couples boudoir session?

This is SO normal and almost always happens. I mean, come on, you’re in next-to-nothing and kissing a bunch- yeah, you’ll probably be turned on. I keep things professional and light-hearted during your session to make sure everyone involved, me included, is comfortable. I try to keep the mood light, and if we need to take a breather, just let me know. Have more couples session questions? Check out this blog post for all the things!

I have a weird pose idea… Can we do it?

Feel free to share your pose ideas, no matter how unique they may seem. This is your session, and I’m here to bring your vision to life, even if it’s unconventional. From handstands to yoga poses to standing on top of stools for no reason – I’ve photographed people doing some crazy sh*t, so I’m down for almost anything. As long as your safety isn’t compromised and we don’t break anything in the studio, I’m probably all in.

I found some lingerie I love, but it’s crotchless. Is that okay?

The best sets usually are haha. Just give me a heads up when you put it on, so I don’t accidentally get a full frontal crotch shot, and we are all good. It is rarely an issue. I can easily pose you in a way that won’t expose your bits. If it makes you uncomfortable to wear it in front of me, I’d recommend a skin-tone thong, sticky thong, or tucking tape to wear underneath.

Do I have to wax or shave before my session?

Completely bald or full bush, I can guarantee you will look hot AF. Do what makes you feel most confident. Regardless of what that is for you, you won’t receive any judgement from me. If you need recommendations for a waxer, I can’t recommend the girls at Bold Beauty enough!

Do you photograph people that look like me?

Hell yes. You’re hot. I welcome clients of all shapes, sizes, ages (18+ of course,) and backgrounds. Clients from 20 years old to 72 years young have been in front of my camera. I have photographed XXS bodies to 5X bodies. All bodies are sexy and worthy of being photographed. If you’re worried about a limitation or disability, please do not hesitate to send me an email and we can discuss how to best accommodate what your needs to give you the best session possible.

Do you photograph trans women?

YES MA’AM. I photograph women, and trans women are women. (If this is you and you need some tips on how to make your session as comfortable and empowering as possible, please email or DM me. I have lots of tips depending on how you want your session to feel. I got you, girl.)

How spicy can we get during the photoshoot?

I love alllllll the spice. During couples boudoir sessions, I just ask that bottoms remain on both partners at all times. (Implied nudity can be done! Just ask!) I do not photograph erotica. If you have specific ideas + you’re not sure where they land on the scale, just ask! Let me know when you book that you want it spicy, and we can go through what that looks like for you. Suggestive poses. Strategic hand placements. Intentional camera angles. We’ll make it hot.

Can I be topless or fully nude during my session?

Hell yeah. I love taking artful nudes. If you’re doing a couples session, I ask that you wear nude bottoms for implied nudity. For solo sessions, nudity is good with me. I do not photograph any self-simulation or erotica, and I tend to stay away from full frontals. As long as we are keeping it artful and empowering, I am fully comfortable with nudity. #FreeTheNips

Feel free to ask any other boudoir related questions you may have; there are no awkward or taboo topics when it comes to me. I’ve had the privilege of photographing over 375 boudoir sessions, and I’ve seen and heard it all. I would much rather you ask me a slightly uncomfortable question that be uneasy about your session. We are in this together bb.
